Esmée Fairbairn Foundation funds Project X Global

Project X Global would like to thank the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation for funding the cross-cutting Knowledge Exchange UK component of FEED-X, which will identify the barriers and opportunities for industry-wide adoption of sustainable alternatives in animal feed. The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation has awarded Project X a grant which will be utilised in Stage 9 (industry roll-out) of the FEED-X project, starting with the creation of our Knowledge X-change programme. This programme is designed to build the required level of confidence for key actors across the value chain to accelerate the rate and scale of the adoption of sustainably fed food.

The Knowledge X-change programme underpins the systematic 9-stage approach of Project X and its credible design ensures early engagement with key stakeholders. The programme engages with retailers, farmers, financiers, insurers, suppliers, regulators, associations, non-profits and feed companies to promote the understanding of the risks and opportunities of industry-wide adoption of sustainable alternatives. It also provides support in coordinating purchasing, undergoing testing, and the sharing of testing results.

Over the course of the grant there are a selection of outcomes to achieve:

  1. The fish farming industry becomes actively engaged with the programme
  2. Stimulate co-ordinated action to support alternative feed initiatives
  3. Market acceptance of sustainably fed farmed-fish
