Amanda Deakin is a researcher at FAI farms, Oxford UK. Founded in 2001 at the Oxford University farm estate, the Food Animal Initiative (FAI) comprises an interdisciplinary team of scientists, veterinarians, consultants and producers. FAI operate commercial farms, research sites and offices in Europe, North and South America and provide consultancy and data management solutions that improve animal health and welfare, and the overall sustainability of our food system. Their work is science-based and commercially relevant.
Her background is in animal behaviour and welfare research. She holds a PhD from Bristol University where she studied decision-making under ambiguity to measure emotional states in laying hens. Amanda currently works across all farmed species on land and at sea and is particularly interested in the emerging welfare issues in aquaculture.
